About Transistor

Transistor is a contemporary art project designed to support the practice of its core artists and provide a vehicle for shows and events. The project encompasses a changing group of artists and invited guests, and presents emergent contemporary work at a number of art fairs each year, alongside a programme of gallery shows and events.

In 2007 Transistor teamed up with Alan Wickes, to host 'Transistor at the Southbank', a show of recent work by Chuck Elliott and Francis Elliott, along with special guest Lady Lucy. The project has since continued to feature the idea of inviting guest artists to exhibit alongside our core artists at key events, and is keen to maintain an open platform, via which collectors and other interested parties can engage directly with members of the group. We try to establish as many direct links as possible between artists currently working with the project, and the wider world.

In 2008, Chuck Elliott organised the inaugural Bristol Contemporary Open, an open submission show that featured the work of 24 artists, selected by a panel of eight people, including John Huggins / Vice President of the RWA, and Phillippa Haynes / Head of Arts at Bristol City Council. Using Transistor as a means to manage and sponsor the event, we made new connections with several mid career artists, and as a result, Transistor is now delighted to be working with Conor Wilson and Lloyd Lewis at a number of events in 2008.

Transistor also hosted 'CODA' at the Gallery on Cork St in 2008, a two man show of work by Chuck Elliott and the renowned sculptor Anna Gillespie, who exhibited a beautiful collection of sculptural and drawn pieces. Since this show Anna and Chuck have exhibited together again at the inaugural exhibition at View Gallery, the latest and largest contemporary commercial art space in Bristol.
